I initially took this course because it was a requirement--like the majority of us. But overtime I learned this class was vital for life’s
struggles; and to understand not only how to communicate with others but why we
converse and say/do the things we do. It is not only important to know how to
articulate with our peers, but to develop an understanding for why people act
the way they do. I have learned to comprehend the field of communication in
that it is a necessary skill for a person’s involvement within their community
and their relationships. The fundamental skills I have acquired from this class
most are the skills of understanding non-verbal communication, the foundation
for both intimate relationships as well as friendships, and how to manage
emotions better when in a conversation. Mostly I have learned how to manage my
communication better. I am able to observe yet regulate my words and have learned
to not get defensive, but instead to listen more intently and honor
criticism.
I agree with your post, I have learned the same as well! I think it’s important to learn and understand how nonverbal communication works. It helps with relationships as well as friendships like you said. It’s great that you have been able to manage your emotions better, that is definitely something I need to do! It is really hard to control your emotions especially when you don’t agree or are arguing with someone. I have realized that being able to stay calm allows you to stay rational through the conversation. I am glad this was a great class and we were able to learn the importance of good communication!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post this week. The things we have learned in this class have definitely impacted the way i communicate with others. Having read through the book i have learned how to communicate with my family, friends, and intimate ones better. For example, after learning about the stages of friendship it was easy to tell where some of my friendships have evolved over the years. Writing the last paper about friendship was really simple because of how much we have learned over the semester. I really enjoyed this class and i'm glad i learned as much as i did.
